What is a yard hydrant?
What is a yard hydrant?
Yard hydrants are a non-freeze valve that helps provide water all year round. This product is used in many applications due to its unique features, such as being frost-proof. Yard hydrants help to supply water in areas with otherwise limited water access.
Yard hydrants are a very simple product. Basically, there is a handle on the head that controls the operation. To start the flow, you would simply lift the handle up. To stop the flow, you would pull the handle back down. Water is drained from the standpipe through a drain port in the valve body below the frost line. This ensures there is no water left in the pipe that can freeze when the temperature drops below the freezing point during fall and winter seasons.
Common Places Where Yard Hydrants are Used
Farms
This is one of the most popular uses for yard hydrants. On a farm, water is needed in many remote locations throughout the entire year. With a yard hydrant, you are able to effectively get water to these places no matter what the temperature outside is. This saves having to lug water from one building to another to supply the animals with water.
Rural Residences
Another popular place to have yard hydrants installed is at rural residences. There are many houses that may not be on a farm, but have other buildings, gardens or large areas of land where a water supply would be an asset. There are many examples of areas and property where having a water supply year-round is helpful, including at an ice rink for flooding or to provide irrigation for a large lawn.
Campgrounds
Campgrounds are another fantastic place to use yard hydrants. Due to the amount of water needed in many different locations, hydrants are often installed all around so people have easy access to water. This saves time for people getting water and also increases the serviceable area that you can have. On smaller campgrounds, centralized water sources may be doable, but when you are on larger ones, people are only going to walk so far to get water.
Boshart Yard Hydrant Rural Residential Install
In conclusion, yard hydrants are the easiest way to provide running water outside in a variety of applications no matter what time of year it is.
