What are the applications for an AUTO-OFF pressure switch?

"AUTO-OFF” pressure switches (maintained manual cut-out switches) are equipped with a lever. This lever can be manually set in two positions:

AUTO – In the auto position, the switch operates in automatic mode controlling the pump exactly like a standard pressure switch. Contacts open on rising pressure (pump stops) and contacts close on falling pressure (pump starts).

and

OFF – In the off position, the contacts are mechanically held in the open position (pump off) by a lever arm until the lever arm is manually set to the AUTO position.  This allows the homeowner to shut off the pump for short or extended periods of time which is ideal for taking safety measures during vacations or when winterizing cottages.
