Filter Housings

How often should I replace the filter bowl on my sediment filter.

To prevent costly repairs or possible water damage filter housing manufacturers strongly recommend that the bowl or sump of all plastic housings be replaced periodically.  The general rule is:

Every five years for clear sumps, and every ten years for opaque sumps.

If your sump has been in use for more than the recommended period, it should be replaced immediately.  Be sure to date any new or replacement sumps for future reference and indicate the next recommended replacement date.

NOTE: Filter housings must be protected from the following environmental conditions:

→ Exposure to organic solvents such as those found in aerosol spray cleaning products and insecticides. These may cause clear housings to crack with time causing failure and leakage. The risk of this exposure is greatest for, but not limited to, point of use (POU) filters installed in the cabinets below kitchen sinks.

→ Direct sunlight or light through a window. This is especially important for filters with clear filter bowls.

→Freezing conditions.  Failure to do so WILL result in cracking of the filter and water leakage.
