Push-Fit

Do you need a pipe stiffener with BOSHART BPF and SSPF Push-Fit fittings?

Yes. A pipe stiffener, sometimes referred to as a pipe support or tube liner, is required when used in conjunction with CTS (Copper Tube Size) PEX, PE-RT, or HDPE pipe.

Boshart supplies the Push-Fit fittings with the stiffeners installed in the fitting, replacement stiffeners can be purchased separately. Stiffeners will result in minimal flow restriction. They are not required when using the fittings with rigid copper or CPVC piping and can be removed easily if desired to minimize flow restriction.

NOTE: Some manufacturers state that their Push-Fit Type fittings do not require a PEX stiffener for PEX, PE-RT or HDPE installations. Boshart maintains the position that pipe stiffeners are required when used in conjunction with PEX, PE-RT, or HDPE pipe to maintain the pipe's roundness and diameter especially when used in hot water applications in which the piping becomes pliable. While the need for a stiffener is up for debate, Boshart does not see a reason for installers to take on any additional risk that could potentially jeopardize the integrity of a connection. Connection failure resulting from failure to use the stiffeners would not be covered under warranty.
