Do you have a torque arrestor for 1-1/2” drop pipe?

Do you have a torque arrestor for 1-1/2” drop pipe?

Currently we do not catalog a torque arrestor for 1-1/2” drop pipe (1.90”O.D.), however there are two simple solution using readily available components. The options detailed below will work on well casing sizes 4” to 8” in the same way the other torque arrestors are installed.

OPTION #1 – “LOW COST” OPTION

You can simply use one of the existing torque arrestors that are for 1” (1.315” O.D.) and 1-1/4” (1.66” O.D.) drop pipes and change out the #28 all stainless clamps for larger #32 size clamps to fit the larger 1-1/2” (1.90” O.D.) drop pipe.

NOTE: This option is not ideal as the spacing of the contact points on the well casing are not equally distributed and it leaves larger gaps at 180°.

Unfortunately, you cannot install three sections of torque arrestor on 1-1/2” drop pipe due to the circumference as we do for the larger 2” (2.375” O.D.) drop pipe. (Part No TA48-20).

For this reason, we strongly advise that you opt to go with the more reliable option number two below.

OPTION #2 – BEST OPTION!

The best solution for installing a torque arrestor on 1-1/2” drop pipe is to use two torque arrestors (four sections of the rubber or PVC torque arrestor). Again, you will need to change out the four #28 all stainless clamps for the larger #32 size clamps to fit the larger 1-1/2” (1.90” O.D.) drop pipe. Due to the limited circumference of the pipe, you will need to install one set right above the other and stagger them at 56° to each other. This ensures that there are well spaced contact points all around the well casing.
