Can the 08 Series brass swing check valves be installed in either a vertical or horizontal orientation?

Yes, our brass swing check valves, with metal to metal seats, can be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical position. However, they must have upward flow when installed in the vertical orientation and flow must be in the direction of the arrow on the valve body.

Check valves are used in piping systems where flow in one direction is desired. If backflow occurs in the system, the swing check disc will close onto the sealing surface of the body, preventing the flow from reversing. It is not recommended that swing check valves be mounted in close proximity to reciprocating pumps or compressors due to constant pressure fluctuations which shortens the life of the valve.
