Can I remove the screen to clean a 17PFVxxx Series PVC check valve?

The screens on the 17PFVxxx Series PVC foot valves snap on securely and are not designed to be easily removed.

If it is foreseeable that the valve may have to cleaned periodically, it is advisable to select a foot valve that has a removable screen which is affixed to the valve body by a screw or machine bolt.

It is quite likely that the screen will be damaged or split during removal, or it may get stretched and will not stay on properly when reinstalled. The good news is that replacement screens are available if required.

TIP: To reduce the risk of cracking the poly screen, warm it up in warm water to make it more pliable. This will make it less prone to snapping, but it is not guaranteed!
