Can a 19-HP Hand Pump be used to pump water from deeper than 25 feet?

Can a 19-HP Hand Pump be used to pump water from deeper than 25 feet?

Yes, however it MUST be converted to incorporate a well cylinder!

The 19-HP is a shallow well pump which can be used for a static water level of 25 feet or less. It can be converted into a deep well hand pump by adding a well cylinder for pumping from deeper static water levels up to 325 feet. There are two basic options to install a hand pump which are covered below at the end of this article and are also detailed in the article “Can a 19-HP Hand Pump a.k.a. Pitcher Pump be used in the winter months?”

CAUTION: Just because you could does not mean you should! The conversion to add a well cylinder will require sourcing the well cylinder and other components required to make the conversion, and mechanical skills will be needed. Boshart does not make any guarantees on how deep you will be able to pump from when making a conversion on the 19-HP hand pump with a well cylinder.

How deep you will be able to pump from is variable. The 19-HP has a short handle which does not provide much leverage. The depth from which you will be able to pump from is dependent on the amount of force that the operator can assert on the handle. A proper pump with a long handle is definitely your best option.

A BETTER SOLUTION: For pumping from depths deeper than 25 feet the use of a proper deep well hand pump which has a longer handle and is built to stand up to the increased forces is strongly recommended. We suggest you may want to reach out to a manufacturer of deep well hand pumps. Below are two manufacturers.

The two manufacturers listed below are the manufacturers I hear about most often and that offer deep well hand pumps and cylinders for pumping from static water levels as deep as 325 feet.
