Repair Coupling

Are the GCC series compression couplings suitable for repairing a galvanized hydronic heating pipe?

Are the GCC series compression couplings suitable for repairing a galvanized hydronic heating pipe?

The GCC series couplings are typically used in cold water applications. They are not suitable for repairing most residential and light commercial hydronic heating systems installed in North America during the 20th century which were designed to deliver their building’s full heating load using supply water temperatures of 180°F or higher.

The GCC Series couplings are only rated for a maximum temperature of 140°F which is well below the system operating temperature!

However, there has been a trend to lower the water temperature in hydronic heating systems to 130° F or 120° F. Therefore, it is entirely dependent on the peek operating temperature of your system. If it does not exceed the 140°F rating of these couplings, they will be suitable as long as they meet the applicable plumbing and building codes for your area.

There are also high temperature compression couplings made by DRESSER. We suggest you look into the DRESSER style 165 PLUS-TEMP boltless compression couplings & fittings for use on steel piping systems if you require a higher temperature compression coupling to repair your hydronic heating system.

NOTE: Boshart does not offer these high temperature compression fittings.
