Yard Hydrant Packing Nut Design change to Square Head

The packing nut has changed in the YHSS and YHBR yard hydrant head assemblies. We have made this improvement because when changing the O-rings, using an improper wrench size or channel locks are rounding off corners on the hex head nut. Also, over time when a hydrant has been installed and the packing nut has not been adjusted in many years, they can seize and be difficult to remove. The larger flats on the new square head design eliminates the chance of rounding off the corners of the nut. The design change has no effect on the Yard Hydrant operation. Repair kits have also been updated to include the new nut design. A ¾” wrench should be used for tightening the packing nut.
