When should I use a spin-out filter instead of a standard sediment filter?

The only time you want to use a spin-out filter instead of a sediment filter is if you only want to remove high volumes of sand, sediment, or other large particles.

Normally spin-out filters are used as a pre-filter in conjunction with a traditional sediment filter. The pre-filter removes the large particulate that would quickly clog a standard sediment filter cartridge.

Unlike traditional sediment filters, spin-out filters use a reusable stainless steel mesh screen to separate larger debris from the water. The collected sediment can be flushed out through the purge valve, allowing the filter to continue operating without frequent cartridge replacements.

Spin-out filters are recommended when:

    • Your water source contains high volumes of heavy sand or sediment.
    • When your standard sediment filter cartridges plug prematurely.
    • When you want to reduce maintenance and extend your sediment cartridge life to last up to the 6 month mark, at which time it should be changed for bacterial reasons.
    •  If you only want to remove high volumes of sand, sediment, or other large particles.

In most applications, a spin-out filter is installed as a pre-filter ahead of a standard sediment filter. The spin-out filter removes larger particles first, allowing the downstream sediment filter to capture finer particles while lasting significantly longer.

Common applications include:

    • Water wells producing large amounts of sand or sediment
    • Pumping from water lakes, streams and reservoirs
    • Irrigation systems
    • Agricultural equipment
    • Misting systems
    • Livestock watering systems

Conclusion: Spin-out filters are designed to remove larger suspended particles. If fine sediment removal or improved water clarity is required, they should be used in combination with a standard sediment filter cartridge.
