Ball Valves

What are the differences between the 0921 vs. 0929 Series Compact (Molded-In Place) PVC Ball Valves?

We are often asked why you would select the 0921 over the 0929 series PVC ball valves or vice versa, it is a very good question. In this article we will provide details on the differences and the reason why we carry two products that have specifications which are so similar.

At the end of the day, it comes down to customer preference. In the past the 0921 series had NSF/ANSI-61 certification while the lower cost 0929 series only had the NSF/ANSI-372 No-Lead certification. It was for that reason we carried both options; the 0921 for potable water applications and the 0929 for other projects that did not mandate the NSF/ANSI-61 certification as well as other non-potable water applications. However, this advantage that the 0921 series had disappeared back in early 2020 when Boshart obtained NSF/ANSI-61 certification on the 0929 / 0929S series.

Today the only reason we still carry both series is because some customers where extremely comfortable with the 0921 and did not want to make any changes. However, due to the lower price point of the 0929 along with the fact that 80% of the 0929 series sizes meet the full port requirement whereas only 60% of the 0921 series are compliant, we have seen a significant shift away from the 0921/ 0921S to the 0929 / 0929S PVC ball valves. If this trend continues a decision to discontinue the original 0921 series may be rational in the future.
