Hose

Can the 107 Series nylon reinforced flexible PVC hose be used in vacuum applications?

The answer is yes! However, we can only say that it can be used for “very light” vacuum applications. Unfortunately, we cannot specify a maximum Hg as there are too many factors involved including ambient and media temperature, size, and fluid and media being transferred.

The 107 Series hose is not suitable for high vacuum applications and any increase in operating temperature will reduce the hoses’ ability to withstand collapse. If there is any question as to whether the hose will withstand the vacuum in your application, you will have to conduct your own independent field testing to verify suitability. Otherwise, you should select a wire reinforced vacuum hose. Boshart does not carry vacuum hose.

Vacuum hose is typically reinforced with helically wound spring steel wire to prevent it from collapsing under a vacuum and to prevent kinking or deformation of the tubing. It will have a vacuum rating for the inches of Hg at a maximum temperature. For example, vacuum rated to 29.9" HG @ 70°F.

Hose with spiral wire reinforcement prevents kinking or collapsing and prevents expansion under higher pressure applications that are above the PSI rating of nylon reinforced hose.
