Can I thin my Gray Magic compound?

Can I thin my Gray Magic compound?

No!

Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be added to the Gray Magic compound which would not adversely affect the integrity. Any addition to the product is not recommended!

Gray Magic is a very slow setting compound, so if it is gaining in viscosity, it is the result of not closing the lid properly. The best recommendation is to secure the cap after each use to prevent the solvents in the compound from evaporating.

The most practical solution is to purchase the compound in smaller sized containers, to get full use of the can’s contents.

WARNING: There is a lot of advice online regarding ways to thin out pipe thread sealing compounds. They range from adding rubbing alcohol to mineral or vegetable oils. These solutions are never to be used to thin out the Gray Magic compound.

We would not suggest using online tips or hacks for thinning any brand of thread sealant without approval directly from the manufacturer.
