Can a Pitless Adapter be used in an artesian/flowing well application?

Yes,

Boshart’s “Slide Type” PA-xxxNL No-Lead Bronze and P-xxx-SS 304 SS slide type Pitless Adapters can be used to install submersible or shallow well jet pumps (for deep well jet pumps a double hole Pitless would be required, part number PA-2XNL).

The Pitless would be installed below the frost line and a well packer is required to prevent the water level from rising above the frost line.

Without a well packer the water will fill the upper chamber and will flow out of the top of the well casing through the well cap vents. In cold weather the well will freeze up and prevent the well from breathing (allowing air into and out of the vents as the static water level in the well lowers during the pumping cycle and rises as the well recovers to the normal static water level after the pump stops).

ALTERNATIVE OPTION TO USING A WELL PACKER:

Industrial “Spool Type” Pitless Adapters / Pitless Units available for 5” through 12” well casing sizes are also an option for artesian / flowing well applications where the flowing well spool option eliminates the need for well packers.
